Movie Transfer

The process and cost of transferring 8mm film varies greatly from one company to the next and there is a significant difference in the levels of quality between them. Since most companies don't reveal much about their service, it's hard to know what you're actually getting. So that is why it is extremely important to do your research and find a reputable and trusted company using the highest quality preservation method possible so your films can look their absolute best.

Unlike other companies that transfer your old footage using outdated technology, at Icehouse Pictures we transfer your film using a professional HD motion picture film scanner. Our film transfer technique is a time-consuming process and requires very expensive scanning equipment, but a quality transfer requires quality equipment. We use the most advanced transfer method available today and our world-class film scanner is one the best in the industry. These HD scanners scan at very high resolutions at a very slow rate, in the range of a frame per second. All film is digitally scanned in full 24 bit color at resolutions substantially higher then 1080p for breathtaking clarity.

During the post-production process scene-by-scene color correction is achieved by individually adjusting the color and brightness of each pixel for optimum results. The color is enhanced digitally and the exposure is adjusted to meet proper IRE luminance levels. Every film is custom edited removing blank sections, film leader tape and other film related issues. All work is done entirely at our facility, unlike some of our competitors who outsource production.
